145th Anniversary of the Battle of Wilson’s Store

May 14-16th, 2010

On February 26, 1865 Confederate forces under the command of Joe Wheeler were entrenched along Cane Creek.  Federal forces under the command of General W.T. Sherman were in Lancaster, SC.  On March 1, 1865, these two groups meet in what was recorded as the Battle of Wilson’s Store about 11 miles south of Monroe, NC.  The Confederates displayed fidelity to country as they defended homes and firesides.  However both sides likely realized the War was drawing to a close.  The Federals would move on to Anson County and ultimately on to Fayetteville, NC.  The War would be over less than two months later.

Experience the sights and sounds of the armies in battle and in camp.  Listen to sound of the blacksmith forging metal into objects for war.  Observe a tea party as the women of the time would have enjoyed and stop by the fashion show to learn more about the civilian attire of time period.
